Pravda International
Pravda International is a news organisation primarily based in Russia and the CIS, but with media outlets in Europe.[1]
Origins
Pravda, was the official government owned newspaper of the Soviet Union from 1918 to 1991. Founded as a workers’ daily, it published its first issue on May 5, 1912, in St. Petersburg. Vladimir Lenin was the first editor.[2]
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, several members of the Pravda editorial team formed a separate on-line version [3]
Pravda International was also created by former Pravda journalists, and two Greek businessmen who had invested millions in the original Pravda newspaper.[4] Pravda International went on to produce foreign language editions in the CIS and East Europe.[5]
There is also an online English edition which is mainly a news aggregator which links to other Russian news sites, but publishes its own editorials.[6]
According to the National Circulation Service for the CIS, the audit bureau of circulation for the region, Pravda International has a print circulation of 577,286 across CIS countries.[7]
