Prince Eudes Thibaut Joseph Marie of Orléans, Duke of Angoulême (born 18 March 1968) is the youngest son of Henri, Count of Paris, Duke of France, Orleanist claimant to the throne of France, and of Duchess Marie Therese of Württemberg.

Biography

Eudes was born in Paris. After his parents separated, he was raised by his mother.

His godparents were Patricia Bemberg and paternal uncle Prince Thibaut, Count of La Marche.

On 27 September 1987, Eudes was given the title duc d'Angoulême by his grandfather, Henri, Count of Paris.

On 19 June 1999, Eudes was married in a civil ceremony at Dreux to Marie-Liesse Claude Anne Rolande de Rohan-Chabot, elder daughter of Count Louis Mériadek de Rohan-Chabot and of his wife, Princess Isabelle de Bauffremont-Courtenay.,[1][2][3] and also a descendant of James II of England, through his illegitimate son, James Fitzjames, 1st Duke of Berwick.[4][5][6][7] That same evening Eudes' grandfather, the Count of Paris, died.

Eudes and Marie-Liesse's religious wedding took place on 10 July 1999 at Antrain. The ceremonies were muted and there was no ball or public reception on account of the state of mourning for the comte de Paris.[8] Eudes' witnesses were his brother Jean, Duke of Vendôme, Prince Gennaro of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, and Henry Lecharny. Marie-Liesse's witnesses were her mother, her sister Eléonore, and Florence Bouteiller. Eudes and Marie-Liesse have two children:

  • Princess Thérèse Isabelle Marie Éléonore d'Orléans (born 23 April 2001).
  • Prince Pierre Jean Marie d'Orléans (born 6 August 2003).

Thérèse was baptised on 7 July 2001 in the church La Madeleine in Paris. Her godparents were her paternal aunt Princess Marie Isabelle of Liechtenstein and maternal uncle Count Thibaud de Rohan-Chabot. She was named after her paternal grandmother Marie Thérèse, Duchess of Montpensier.

Pierre was baptised on 17 October 2003 in the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Esperance in Cannes.[9] He received the name Pierre in honour of his great-grandfather Prince Pedro de Alcantara of Orléans-Braganza. The names Jean and Marie are in honour of his godparents, his paternal uncle Jean, duc de Vendôme and his father's cousin Archduchess Marie of Austria (daughter of Infante Carlos, Duke of Calabria).

Eudes is third in line to the Orleanist succession to the French throne after his brother Prince Jean, duc de Vendôme, and his nephew, Prince Gaston.
