Princess Tatiana of Greece and Denmark (née Tatiana Ellinka Blatnik; born 28 August 1980 Venezuela)[1] is the wife of Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark, son of King Constantine II of Greece and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, who reigned over Greece until the monarchy was abolished in 1973.

Family and early life

Tatiana Blatnik was born in Venezuela, though raised in Switzerland and is of Russian Jewish origin. Her biological father, Ladislav Vladimir Blatnik, died when she was 6 and she was raised by her mother Marie Blanche. Her stepfather Attilio Brillembourg is the owner of a New York area financial services company.

Tatiana and her brother, Boris Blatnik (born on 21 February 1978) were both born in Venezuela, and are the natural children of Ladislav Blatnik, born in Slovenia and Marie Blanche Bierlein (born in Munich on 10 December 1954). Her maternal grandparents are Ernst Bierlein, born in Munich on 26 February 1920, and wife (married in Munich on 21 February 1945) Countess Ellinka von Einsiedel, born in Würmegg on 26 July 1922, this last by whom she is a descendant of the Prince Elector William II of Hesse.[2]

Tatiana studied at Aiglon College,[3] then at Georgetown University graduating in 2003 with a degree in sociology.[citation needed] Until July 2010, when she resigned to concentrate on her wedding plans, Tatiana had worked in the publicity department as an event planner for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.[4]

Engagement and Marriage

Prince Nikolaos's engagement to Tatiana Blatnik, with whom he had been in a long term relationship, was announced on 28 December 2009, by the office of King Constantine in London.[5] Until July 2010, when she resigned to concentrate on her wedding plans, Blatnik had worked in the publicity department as an event planner for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.[6]

The couple married in Spetses, Greece on 25 August 2010.[citation needed] The marriage was widely reported in the Greek media.[citation needed] The entire Danish Royal Family with the exception of Crown Prince Frederik travelled to attend the marriage along with some others, including Queen Sofía of Spain and her children and their spouses, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent with their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor, the younger generation of the Swedish Royal Family, Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway, and The Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands.[citation needed] Her former employer Diane von Fürstenberg did not attend the ceremony or design the bride's dress (as had been widely expected).[citation needed] The gown was instead designed by Angel Sanchez.[citation needed]

On her marriage, Tatiana has been styled as a Princess of Greece and Denmark with the style of Royal Highness.[citation needed] In addition to be a Danish princess by-marriage, she also descends from King Frederik V of Denmark.[citation needed]
