It gives British troops some of the most testing exercises in the world with access to 5,000 square miles of primary jungle provided for free by the Belize government. It also supports the training of the Belize Defence Force. Later it operated as the emergency medical airlift for the country, before being deactivated in 2011, but for seconded advisers.[1]

In 2015, due to rising tensions between Belize and Guatemala and also since the British cut back on military bases worldwide to focus on the War On Terror in 2011, Belize asked them to bring BATSUB back; the British Government brought BATSUB to Belize once again.[2][3][4] It is located next to Belize International Airport, in the Price Barracks, Ladyville.
