Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie is the ninth overall Naruto film and sixth Naruto Shippūden film written by Masashi Kishimoto[1] and was released in Japan on July 28, 2012.[2][3] The film follows a different storyline that Naruto and Sakura end up in an alternate reality in a test version of Project Tsuki no Me, where Naruto's parents survive and many characters have different personalities. The band Asian Kung-Fu Generation performs the film's theme song "Sore de wa, Mata Ashita" (それでは、また明日?, lit. "Well Then, See You Tomorrow").[4] Both the single CD and the film's original soundtrack were released on July 25, 2012.[5][6] The first 1.5 million film was given for Motion Comic: Naruto, a DVD that shows scenes by Kishimoto.[7]
Plot
Naruto Uzumaki and the Hidden Leaf group track and drive off the fake Akatsuki. While his friends are praised by their families, Naruto wanders around in loneliness, before Sakura Haruno takes him to the park to hear her complain about her parents. Soon, they confront Tobi, who uses the Limited Tsukuyomi (限定月読 Gentei Tsukuyomi?) to transport them into an alternate reality, based on inner thoughts. Being called Menma (メンマ?), Naruto and Sakura discovers that their friends acting the exact opposite of their usual selves, and a flirty Sasuke who never left the village. While Sakura learns that she is orphaned with her father as the reality's Fourth Hokage, Naruto sees his parents, Minato and Kushina, alive and well. The next day, Naruto and Sakura participate in a mission to retrieve a Red Moon scroll which details on how to defeat a mysterious masked ninja. Kushina protects Naruto before being injured and dissuades the refusal to bond with his parents.
After successfully retrieving the scroll, the masked man takes Sakura hostage and devastates the village. While the ninjas recuperate, Naruto leaves to exchange the Red Moon scroll for Sakura, before being joined by that reality's Akatsuki, led by Itachi, who were sent by Tsunade as backup. Naruto battles with the masked man, revealed to be the real Menma, Naruto's counterpart. After defeating him, Naruto learns that Tobi has controlled Menma and possess him to extract the Nine-Tails. Luckily, Naruto uses the Red Moon scroll and purges Tobi from Menma to cancel the Limited Tsukuyomi. Menma is freely reunited with Minato and Kushina, while Naruto and Sakura bids farewell to them and return to their own world. Sakura apologizes to her parents and Naruto does the same thing to Iruka Umino, who welcomes him home with a birthday cake and reminds him that even though he is an orphan, he still has a family.

The film debuted in the Japanese box office third earning US$3,799,276.[8] On August 14, 2012 Yahoo announced grossed sales of over ¥1 billion (US$12.7 million) and at that rate it was expected to surpass the then highest-grossing Naruto film, 2004's Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (1.37 billion yen/US$17.4 million). As a result, Kishimoto drew a picture of Naruto and the film antagonist Menma to commemorate the film's achievement.[9] Road to Ninja was the highest grossing Naruto movie making ¥ 1.46 billion (US$18.3 million) between its opening on July 28 and September 23[7] before it was surpassed by The Last: Naruto the Movie in December 2014.[10] For the year 2012, the movie made ¥ 1.48 billion and ranked 29th among Japanese movies in Box office including live action movies.[11] In the Philippines, the movie earned a total grossed amount of $123,613.00 (PhP 5,068,627) on its 2-week run.[12]
