Sir Robin Ernest Auld (born 19 July 1937) was a Lord Justice of Appeal in the Court of Appeal of England and Wales.

Sir Robin was educated at Brooklands College and King's College London. He graduated with a first class honours degree in Law in 1958, obtained a doctorate in Law in 1963, and he became a Fellow of King's in 1987. He was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1959 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1975. He became a Bencher at Gray's Inn in 1984. In 1984 he was appointed leading counsel for the British government before the Royal Commission into British nuclear tests in Australia (1984-1987).[1] He was appointed a Recorder of the Crown Court in 1977, and became a judge of the High Court in 1987, appointed to the Queen's Bench Division, when he was knighted.

He was promoted to the Court of Appeal in 1995, when he became a member of the Privy Council. He was the Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales from 1995 to 1998. Following on from the review of civil justice undertaken by Lord Woolf, Auld undertook a review of the operation of the criminal courts in England and Wales in 1999 to 2001, producing a report known as the "Auld Report".[2]

He has been Patron of The Bar Society of King's College London since 2005. He was appointed as a member and Vice-Chairman of the Judicial Appointments Commission in January 2006, as a representative of the judiciary.

After recently retiring from his position as a Lord Justice of Appeal, and extrajudicial contributions to the development of law and policy in criminal procedure and administrative law, Auld has agreed to be the A. L. Goodhart Visiting Professor of Legal Science for 2009–10 at the University of Cambridge where he is currently lecturing. He has also sat as an additional judge on the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

Sir Robin was appointed the sole commissioner of the Turks and Caicos Islands Commission of Inquiry following allegations of corruption at the highest levels of government in the Turks and Caicos, and delivered his report in 2009.[3] He also sat as a judge of the Court of Appeal of Bermuda from 2008 to 2015,[4] and was President of the Court of Appeal of the Solomon Islands from 2011 until 2014.

He is a member of the Athenaeum Club.
