Star Sports network showcases the best of live sports and sports-related programmes in India. The brand is part of Star India – a fully owned subsidiary of 21st Century Fox. Star India is also the current "Team Sponsor" of the Indian Cricket Team.

Leveraging the group’s strengths in content and audience engagement, Star India has made great leaps in transforming viewers' sports consumption habits in India. The sports business has grown to eight channel properties (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and Star Sports HD1, HD2, HD3, HD4). This move was done to maximise the sporting experience and allow the network to telecast multiple sport activities, especially in the Indian sub-continent. The Star Sports channels focuses on multiple sport activities at a global level, and is the main broadcaster in India and South East Asian nations. Star Sports in Southeast Asia replaced by Fox Sports 2. The channel has been criticised regularly by its viewers for an extremely large logo on all the HD channels.

Digital Platform Availability

Hotstar is the digital platform Owned by Star India available in India. It webcasts Indian Premier League other than what Star Sports broadcasts.

Channel specialties

The Star Sports brand is committed to bringing the best sporting action to its Indian audience. To that effect, it has split up coverage across its channels to ensure fans have a wide choice of various sports.

  1. Star Sports 1 & HD1: This channel covers all cricket coverage under the purview of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England Cricket Board (ECB), ACB (Australian Cricket Board) and also domestic tournaments. This programming is in English language.
  2. Star Sports 2 & HD2: All home sporting leagues in India, like the Pro Kabaddi League, the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) and Hockey India League (HIL) are covered on these channels. Hockey matches organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) are also covered on these channels.
  3. Star Sports 3 & HD3: All cricket coverage related to the ICC, BCCI, ECB, ACB and domestic tournaments will be broadcast on these channels in Hindi language.
  4. Star Sports 4 & HD4: These channels showcase sporting events for which Star Sports has secured official broadcast rights and which are organized by Formula 1, Barclays Premier League, Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) events, Wimbledon and Badminton World Federation (BWF). The Star Sports network is the main broadcaster of the Barclays Premier League and other major European Leagues. Recently, it acquired rights to telecast the Bundesliga - Germany’s primary football competition. The recent broadcast of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 was also on the Star Sports network. The 2016 ICC World Twenty20 was also broadcast by Star Sports.
