Sandwell and Dudley railway station is on the Birmingham Loop of the West Coast Main Line, on the outskirts of Oldbury town centre on Bromford Lane (the main route towards West Bromwich, West Midlands), England.
It was originally opened as 'Oldbury' in 1852 and was one of two stations in the town. The more centrally located Great Western Railway Oldbury was located on the site of the bingo hall opposite the Sainsburys supermarket and was the only station on the GWR's Oldbury Branch Line from Langley Green.
However, in 1984 it was rebuilt as a railway station designed to serve the metropolitan boroughs of Sandwell and Dudley with a new name to suit. It was equipped with longer platforms capable of handling long-distance intercity trains.
Services
The station today is operated by London Midland on behalf of Centro. Services are provided by Virgin Trains and London Midland.
Current Services are as follows:
- 2tph London Midland stopping services each to Wolverhampton and Walsall via Birmingham New Street and Aston.
- 1tph London Midland services each to Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury calling at all stations between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
- 1tph Virgin Trains services - one to either Glasgow Central or Edinburgh Waverley (alternate hours) via Crewe & Preston and the other to London Euston via Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International, Coventry and Milton Keynes Central. At peak times additional services start/terminate at Wolverhampton.[1]
Both platforms have lifts, making the station fully accessible to people in wheelchairs.
