Shahdara Bagh

Shahdara, (Urdu: شاہدره‎), is a northern suburb of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is situated on the northern side of the Ravi River. It is the first stop of Lahore Metrobus (BRT).

Shahdara can be translated as "the way of kings". Shah translates as "king" and dara translates as the way of kings. In the 15th century, Shahdara was the entrance gate of the Lahore and Mughal Emperor. It hosts several historic Mughal architectural sites. These include the Akbari Sarai, the Tomb of Jahangir (who was the Emperor from 1605 to 1627), the tomb of his consort Nur Jahan, as well as the tomb of his brother-in-law Asif Khan. Shahdara Bagh is also home to Kamran's Baradari (Kamran Ki Baradari). Although this site was originally built on the Ravi River bank, the river changed course, covering the site near the Ravi Bridge.

Shahdara is divided into old and new towns.

Shahdara Bagh Railway Station and Shahdara Town Railway Station

Shahdara Bagh Railway Station and Shahdara Town Railway Station are busy railway stations located in Shahdara. These urban stations of the Lahore city are served by commuter trains of Lahore. A large number of commuters use this station to get access to ther cities. The M-2 Motorway and N-5 GT Road pass through it, linking Lahore to northern and western Pakistan.

Other Facilities

Al-Miraj Free Eye Hospital is a big hospital which provides free eye treatment. The Government is also building a major hospital there.

A large number of shopping malls are under construction in this vicinity. There is in previous year was built a hospital which was named as "Govt. SHAHDRA Hospital"

→ Shahdara is known as the "Hub of private Education" in Lahore. A large number of private educational institutes and evening academies are there.

The area hosts more than three sports complexes.

The largest business community in Shahdara are Mughals, who migrated from uttar perdesh, haryana and delhi, India following independence Most Mughals are engaged in small business related to iron, steel and brass articles that are manufactured and distributed across Pakistan. They are technically very expert and playing their part in development of local industry.

Shahdara has a 50 MW power station and a natural gas distribution center. Millat Tractors, the country's biggest tractor manufacturer, is situated there.

Shahdara is also known for its cheapest educational fee structure in all fields i.e Science, Art, Commerce.

Education

Ujala College

Ujala College, Shahdara is the most renowned private institution of Arts in the whole Pakistan. Until now, its students have achieved more than 12 positions in the B.A examination conducted through University of the Punjab, and many Gold and Silver medals.[1]
