Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University (SOA University) is a Deemed to be university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It was designated to be a deemed university by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on 17 July 2007. The University spreads across 125 acres of land with a total built of area of 2,68,658 square meters. In 1996 it was established by Dr. Manoj Ranjan Nayak in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The University has been accreditedby National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with Grade "A" for its overall performance.[1]

History

Siksha 'O 'Anusandhan was previously recognized as an educational society under Societies' Registration Act XXI of 1860.

Accreditation

As well as citing benchmarking by the National Board of Accreditation, the institution's official website claims certification by the International Accreditation Organization,[2] a website which The New York Times and other sources have reported as a distributor of illegitimate degrees.[3][4][5]

Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER)

Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) was established in the year 1996 in Bhubaneswar and it received AICTE approval for Undergraduate degree (B.Tech) courses. Initially it was affiliated to Utkal University and from 2002 to 2007, it was affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). Since 2007, Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), Bhubaneswar is a constitute institute of Siksha O Anusandhan University. The institute campus covers 46 acres. Students are admitted into this College through Siksha O Anusandhan University Admission Test (SAAT). ITER, Siksha O Anusandhan University is considered as a par with finest Institutes like Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Jadavpur University in the eastern part of India in terms of curricula. The institute offers undergraduate programs in nine distinct streams which includes;

Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital

Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, established in the year 2005 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is a leading medical college, which provides quality medical education and global standard health care services. The the MBBS programme of the institute since 2007-2008 and post graduate (MD) programmes from 2011 has been approved by Medical Council of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. SUM Hospital is an intrinsic part of the Institute of Medical Sciences and it offers therapeutic care with a focus on preventive care for a healthy society.

Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS)

Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS) was established in the year 2006-07 and for its BDS programme, it is recognized by Dental Council of India and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of India. Some of the new subjects like Forensic Odontology, Oral Implantology and Aesthetic Dentistry has been introduced by this Institute.

Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS)

Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS) was established in the 1997. It is the Management institute of SOA University. The institute attempts to prepare professionals in management for corporate and non-corporate sectors including Government sectors also. It offers the Undergraduate and postgraduate courses in some specialized areas like Marketing Management, Financial Management, Human resource Management and Information Systems & Operations Management.

Sum Nursing College (SNC)

It was established in the year 2004 and recognized by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and Govt. of Odisha. The Institute offers B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes in Nursing.

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) including Centre for Biotechnology (CBT)

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences started in the year 2004 with the recognition from AICTE and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). It offers 4 years Undergraduate, 2 years Postgraduate and Ph.D degree in Pharmacy.

School of Hotel Management (SHM)

School of Hotel Management was established in the year 2004 with the recognition from AICTE, Govt. of India, New Delhi. It offers the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Hotel Management.

Research

Research at Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University is headed by a Dean along with the other highly qualified faculty members. Currently more than 600 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D and 34 of them have already been awarded Doctorate. Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University has four research centres for basic and fundamental research and maximum number of faculties have publication with SCOPUS index. Some of the notable students also published many international research and review journals with the proper guidance of Professors. The University has many collaborations with some national level institutions like NITs, IITs, and foreign university such as Florida International University, USA.

Admission and scholarships

A national level entrance test Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University Admission Test (SAAT), is conducted by Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University every year to for admission to various University programmes. The University also grants scholarships to meritorious and needy students every year.

Campus and facilities

The institute is in friendly campuses of 200 acres (0.81 km2) in the temple city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The Central Library of ITER is fully automated with integrated library management software to search and know the details of any book online. The University provides hostel accommodation facilities for boys and girls. The hostels are safe and secured with a good academic environment and surrounded by pleasant landscapes. ITER has four ladies hostels and seven boys hostels with 2500 and above boarders. All the hostels have round the clock Wi-Fi connectivity and medical facilities. The University also provides transportation facilities for the day scholars which covers almost entire Bhubaneswar.
