Sitaphalmandi is one of the old suburbs of Secunderabad in the state of Telangana, India. It is located close to Secunderabad Railway Station and is surrounded by Osmania University in the east, Warasiguda in the south, Secunderabad in the west and Tarnaka in the north. Sitaphalmandi is located about 1.5 km from Secunderabad.

The suburb's name comes from the words sitaphal and mandi meaning market of custard apples. Previously, farmers foremost arrived here on bullock carts with custard apples and other fruits and sell their produce, a routine which continues even today.

Commercial area

Some banks and ATMs operating in this area are, ICICI Bank, SBI, SBH and Andhra Bank, Central Bank of India. Movie theatres such as Suresh and Sridevi are present here. Alternatively, there are many other shops which cater to all needs of the locals. For other shopping options, the general bazaar in Secunderabad is recommended.

Education

Sitaphalmandi has a lot of schools which cater to the students in and around the locality. The locality had schools for the past 40 years catering to the local community. They are the once reputed Model High School, Vedic Vidyalayam High School, Veera Machineni Pagadiah High School, Govt. High SChool - Sithafalmandi, Sri Sai Vidyalay High School, Pragathi High School, Amaravathi Grammar High School and Nehru High School in Namalagundu. Vivekananda Junior College, Vivekananda Degree College, Vivekananda PG College are some of the colleges in the area and English and Foreign Languages University is located close to the railway station.

Culture

There are also has a lot of mosques and temples which are the main landmarks. There are two big mosques in this area, one is in the main Sitafalmandi which is close to the railway station, and the other at Chilkalguda. The temples there are Rama Lingeshwara Swamy Alayam (Ramalyam), Pochamma Temple, Saibaba Temple (Dattatreya temple) and there is also a Gurudwara located in the area.A recently constructed temple of Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy (Lord Balaji) constructed at Namalagundu on a spiritual rock,has now made the place more famous.

Transport

Sitaphalmandi is well connected with the other localities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad by rail and road. Sitaphalmandi Railway Station is located on the Falaknuma – Secunderabad line of the Hyderabad MMTS, a local train service serving the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and thus connecting it to other parts of the city such as Falaknuma, Kachiguda and Lingampally. The buses in the series 86, 107, 57S, 2V, 16S run by TSRTC connect Sitaphalmandi with the areas of Secunderabad, Jamia Osmania, Ramnagar and other parts of the city.

A Rail over bridge (ROB) over the railway tracks was inaugurated on August 14, 2009 by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.[1] The bridge was opened after a long gap of thirteen years after works were grounded due to the delay caused by land acquisition problems and various other reasons.[2]
