Racing Post is a British daily horse racing, greyhound racing and sports betting newspaper, appearing in print form and online.

From 30 May 2011 – 3 July 2011, it had a circulation of 56,507.

History

It was founded in April 1986 by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as a rival to the Sporting Life. In 1998 Trinity Mirror, owners of the rival paper, purchased the licence to use the Racing Post trademark for a pound from Sheikh Mohammed and closed the Sporting Life. In October 2007 Trinity Mirror sold the Racing Post licence for £170 million to FL Partners, an Irish private equity firm, who were advised on the venture by former Racing Post editor Alan Byrne.[1] Trinity Mirror were requested by Sheikh Mohammed to give £10 million to four charities for transferring the licence to use the trademark, which the Sheikh continues to own.[2]

In 2014 Racing Post was warned to improve its website security by the Information Commissioner's Office after a hacker was able to obtain the names, addresses, passwords, dates of birth and telephone numbers of 677,335 people registered with the website. It was reported that a failure to keep patching of its systems up to date was the cause of the security breach.[3]

Subsidiaries
