The team was controlled by the Federation of bandy and field hockey USSR.The team was one of the dominant teams during 1980s-1990s from europe until its defunct.It outedged top teams like India, Pakistan during that time.It won bronze medal as a host in 1980 moscow olympics reached semi-finals of world cup in 1986 where it stood fourth.
