Sowerby /ˌsɔːrbi/ was a county constituency centred on the village of Sowerby in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
Contents
History
The constituency was created for the 1885 general election, and abolished for the 1983 general election, when it was largely replaced by the new Calder Valley constituency.
Boundaries
Up until its abolition, Sowerby covered the West Yorkshire parishes of Heptonstall, Blackshaw, Wadsworth, Todmorden, Erringden, Hebden Royd, Sowerby Bridge, Ripponden and Elland.[1]
