Synopsis

As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.

Cast

Production

An adaptation scripted by Eric Heisserer has been planned since at least November 2012, filming in Montreal, Quebec,[1] involving the production company FilmNation Entertainment.[2]

On April 2, 2014, Deadline.com revealed that Denis Villeneuve is set to direct a film adaptation written by Eric Heisserer and co-produced by FilmNation Entertainment and Lava Bear Films. Amy Adams is "in early talks" for the lead role as Dr. Louise Banks, an expert linguist.[3]

On May 14, 2014, Paramount Pictures issued a press release stating it had acquired the North American distribution rights for the Story of Your Life film adaptation, with a tentative release year of 2016. Both director Denis Villeneuve and lead actress Amy Adams have been confirmed for the project, based on "a new draft of a script" by Eric Heisserer.[4] Jeremy Renner joined the film on March 6, 2015 to play a physics professor paired by the government with Adams' character to help communicate with the aliens.[5] Forest Whitaker signed-on to the film on April 1, 2015, and Michael Stuhlbarg joining the cast as CIA Agent Halpern in June 2015.[6][7]

Filming

Filming was set to begin in mid-June 2015, right after Renner completed the shooting of Captain America: Civil War.[5] Principal photography on the film began on June 7, 2015 in Montréal, Québec, Canada.[8][9]
