Sue Williams was an American actress and Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for April 1965. Her centerfold was photographed by Ed DeLong and William V. Figge.

Early life and Playboy

Sue Williams was born Susan Williams in Glendale, California[1] and attended Glendale High School (Glendale, California) between 1957 and 1959.[2] In 1964 Williams modelled for photographers Bill and Melba Figge, who she met through her sister who worked as an artist at Figge Studio, then located in Glendale.[3] According to Melba Figge, quoted in an interview with Lindsay Sandham in 2005, We sent the first [photo] in ... and Hugh Hefner said, ‘She's really cute. We'd like to see your work.’[3] Sue Williams was the first of 48 Playboy centerfolds to be photographed by Figge Studio. According to Playboy, she was the first Playmate to have breast implants and the first who was less than five feet tall.[4]

Acting career

After appearing in Playboy, Sue Williams was signed immediately by American International Pictures[5] and appeared in How to Stuff a Wild Bikini as “Peanuts”, alongside other Playboy Playmates Marianne Gaba and Jo Collins.[6] She appeared in four more AIP movies released in between 1965 and 1966, credited as Sue Hamilton.[7] Sue Hamilton appeared in nationally-syndicated magazine articles promoting American International Pictures releases, including “Starlets Seek Natural Look’’[8] and “Use Makeup The Professional Way.”[9] Sue Hamilton also appeared in the “Super-face” print advertising campaign for “Sheer Magic” make-up, as did fellow AIP starlet Patti Chandler, to promote The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini and Fireball 500.[10]

Mistaken identity

On Saturday September 3, 1966, Sue Williams made an appearance as "Sue Williams, Miss April 1965" at the Anaheim store of Cotley's Gentlemen's Outfitters, in a promotion "You Have a Date with a Playmate".[11] There are no verified details of Sue Hamilton’s career or life after 1966. Many online sources, including IMDB, Find a Grave and a previous version of this page, incorrectly state that Williams’ real name was Karen Sue Hamilton, née Levitt, who committed suicide on September 2, 1969 and is interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.[12] However, published photographs of Karen Sue Levitt in 1964 confirm that she is not the same person as Playboy model and actress Sue Williams/Hamilton.[13][14]
