Sven Bender (German pronunciation: [ˈzvɛn ˈbɛndɐ]; born 27 April 1989) is a German footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. Sven is the twin brother of Lars Bender.[2]

Club career

Sven Bender played from 1993 to 1999 in the youth of the TSV Brann castle, from 1999 to 2002 he was part of SpVgg Unterhaching youth teams. In summer 2002, he moved to the 1860 München youth team.

1860 München

In August 2006, Bender played his first game for 1860 München II in the Regionalliga Süd.

Borussia Dortmund

In 2009, he joined Borussia Dortmund, where he signed a contract that tied him to the club until 2013.[citation needed]

On 6 January 2013, Bender extended his contract with Dortmund, keeping him at the club until 2017.[3]

On 27 July 2013, Bender won the 2013 DFL-Supercup with Dortmund 4-2 against rivals Bayern Munich.[4]

International career

At under-19 level, he was a part of the team that won the 2008 European Under-19 Championship.[citation needed] Bender made his debut for the senior team in a friendly match against Australia on March 2011.[citation needed]
