Sylvester Bonnaffon, Jr. (September 14, 1844 – May 12, 1922) was a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his US Army service in the American Civil War.

He entered army service as a private at Philadelphia, December 14, 1861, and mustered in Company G, 99th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to corporal on April 1, 1862; to sergeant on September 24, 1864; to second lieutenant on August 1, 1862; to first lieutenant on September 24, 1864; to captain on April 20, 1865; to brevet major and lieutenant colonel on March 13, 1865. He mustered out with his company on July 1, 1865.[1]

Medal of Honor citation

He received his Medal of Honor for his actions against Confederate forces at Boydton Plank Road, Virginia on October 27, 1864, where he was wounded.[1] Rank and organization: First Lieutenant, Company G, 99th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. His Medal was issued on September 29, 1893.

Citation:

Checked the rout and rallied the troops of his command in the face of a terrible fire of musketry; was severely wounded.
