Obtaining government permission for the use of this symbol
This and other topics are not allowed to have an image of the Canadian flag without written permission. I have initiated dialogue with the Canadian government to pursue it. -- Spiralofhope (talk) 00:05, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately, it cannot be used here. — spiralofhope / (talk) 07:02, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
The email conversation
Communications and Federal Identity/Communications et l’image de marque <information at tbs-sct dot gc.ca> Good morning, The Government of Canada does not permit commercial use or reproduction of the official symbols. The official symbols are protected to ensure their integrity to identify Parliament, the federal judiciary and Government of Canada institutions in Canada and abroad. Marks and designs similar to the official symbols are pursued as a copyright or trade-mark infringement. Thank you. -- From: spiralofhope Sent: August 9, 2017 11:48 AM To: Communications and Federal Identity/Communications et l’image de marque Subject: Re: Reproduction of Government Symbols for infogalactic Hello, I'm following up on this request. Is this the correct email address to contact? -- On Fri, 30 Dec 2016 16:06:24 -0800 spiralofhope wrote: per http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/terms/index.shtml 1) I would like to request permission to reproduce "the flag symbol" for this page: https://infogalactic.com/info/Flag_of_Canada 2) I make the same request for the Arms of Canada for this page: https://infogalactic.com/info/Arms_of_Canada -- As this website accepts donations and generates advertising revenue, perhaps you would consider it commercial. Please note that pages associated with these symbols are minor and associated revenue is likely to be trivial at best. https://infogalactic.com/info/Infogalactic:Donations https://infogalactic.com/info/Infogalactic:Advertising There will also be a process for commercial users to purchase scope-specific administrative powers. https://infogalactic.com/info/Infogalactic:Corelords -- I was unable to find a "media kit" (perhaps I didn't look hard enough) and therefore have no exact images to request. I would like advice on what images would be best to use, and what processes can be done to them (resizing, format changes, as examples). The appropriate phrase(s) to use to indicate the copyright of these images would also be welcomed. An SVG image would be ideal, as it would have excellent colour reproduction and can be resized trivially. Failing that, I'm sure infogalactic could make do with anything (e.g. PNG, JPEG, GIF). Should you not know precisely what to recommend, I will make efforts to locate and request specific images from esdc.gc.ca (or perhaps elsewhere on a gc.ca website) Please also advise on additional restrictions on the use of images regarding technical transformative processes like compression or resizing. If there is not already an official position on this sort of thing, yet there is still some small concern, I would use given pictures exactly and with absolutely no alteration whatsoever, and would then return to you with the details of each requested process. I am also willing to work with you to create a media kit with suggested images and technical details covering these sorts of nuances. Although I am an official editor, if my request in this way is not proper and you require an official @infogalactic.com email address, I will make arrangements. Lastly, I will also make efforts to scour the website and purge these symbols from other pages and build a list of pages for individual consent. Thank you for your time. Please let me know if there is any way I can help this process along and make things easier for you.
