The Alchemist is a former pub at 225 St John's Hill, Battersea, London, that was controversially demolished in May 2015 after 160 years in business.

It was originally called The Fishmongers' Arms',[1] and was built in 1854.[2]

In July 2015, the London Evening Standard reported that Wandsworth Council's planning department were calling its demolition a "very serious breach" of their rules, and "unjustified".[1]

The demolition has been compared to that of the Carlton Tavern in Kilburn, north London, which was demolished in April. Like the Carlton Tavern, the developer, Udhyam Amim, faces the prospect of having to rebuild it "brick by brick". Amim is seeking retrospective planning consent to redevelop the site as a block of flats.[1]
