Plot summary

Claude 'Limey' Pierce (Freddie Bartholomew) is a wealthy lonely young English boy attending a New York public school. He is befriended by slum kid James 'Gig' Stevens (Mickey Rooney), son of a recently executed gangster. Robert 'Buck' Murphy (Jackie Cooper) is a middle-class gang leader with whom Rooney frequently clashes.
