The Montfort Academy is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Mt. Vernon, New York. It is located within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York.

Background

The Montfort Academy is an award-winning classical, Catholic high school. Named after St. Louis de Montfort, the Montfort Academy is unique as a Catholic school as it was founded by a layman, rather than by the diocese or a religious order.

The academic program of The Montfort Academy reflects a four-year classical education curriculum. Courses in Latin, mathematics, astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, history, grammar, logic, rhetoric, literature, fine arts, Italian language and culture, philosophy, and theology are required. Other courses in Greek, Spanish, economics, architecture, and many others are offered.[1]

The Montfort Academy has been ranked for seven years in a row as one of America's 50 best Catholic high schools.[2] The school has a 100% college acceptance rate, and an average SAT score in the 85th percentile. 70% of students achieve the Mastery Level of the Regents examinations of New York State, which is 85% or above. The school was founded by a small group of businessmen and educators, including corporate finance executive and former Assistant Secretary of the Navy Richard Greco, Jr. in 1998. The Class of 2013 was awarded more than $3 million in scholarship money and financial aid to attend college.

In the 2013-2014 academic year eighty students attend The Montfort Academy. The school has recently moved to the Fleetwood section of Mt. Vernon, to the former Sts. Peter and Paul Elemenatary school building.[3] The school's telephone number is 914-699-7090 .
