The The Hague Tram (Dutch: Haagse tram) is a tram network forming part of the public transport system in The Hague, the seat of government of the Netherlands.
Opened in 1864, the network currently[when?] has twelve tram lines and four light rail lines, operating under the brand RandstadRail. It has been operated by HTM Personenvervoer since 2002, being the successor of N.V. Gemengd Bedrijf Haagsche Tramweg-Maatschappij (01-01-1927 - 11-06-2002) and N.V. Haagsche Tramweg-Maatschappij (HTM) (01-05-1887 - 01-01-1927).
The first lines in The Hague were horse drawn. In the first half of the 1880s steam trams appeared. These were rapidly replacing the horsedrawn lines, especially in the longer services such as the line between The Hague and Delft in July 1887, still in service today, but now extended to Scheveningen Noorderstrand. In 06-08-1904 the first electrified line went into service, being line 9 between Plein and Scheveingen Kurhaus. Most of this line is still part of the actual line between Vrederust and Scheveingen Noorderstrand.
The network consists of 105km of rails and 241 stations running 12 different lines. (as of January 2016)
A 1.25-kilometre (0.78 mi) long downtown tunnel for trams, used by Lines 2, 3, 4 and 6, was opened in March 2004.[1]
The actual fleet consists of around 135 recently[when?] refurbished trams of the GTL8-I (1981-1984) and GTL8-II-type (1990-1991), built by La Brugeoise et Nivelles in Bruges, Belgium, nowadays Bombardier Transportation and of 72 dual-voltage tram-trains/lightrail vehicles of the Regiocitadis-type built by Alstom in Salzgitter, Germany.

- Operated temporarily by RandstadRail as light rail, because of a lack of space for a turning loop due the major refurbishment of the Delft Central station-area. As a temporary (and cost saving) measure a head end stop has been built at Nieuwe Plantage (hence the use of Regiocitadis trams, since they are the only bi-directional trams in The Hague at the moment).The route of tram 19 will be extended to TU Delft campus in the near future (2017), maybe even to Rotterdam-The Hague Airport.
