Vadgam is a Taluka Place in India, situated in Banaskantha district in northern Gujarat. Administratively, it is a Taluka. There are 110 village under this Taluka. The population of the vadgam Taluka is around 101025. The main economic activities of the people are agriculture, dairy farming, and diamond cutting.

The main community of the Taluka is Anjana Chaudhary Patel, Rajput, Muslim & Thakor. Vadgam is 15 km away from Palanpur the main city of the Banaskantha District.

Geography

Vadgam is situated between Kheralu and Palanpur. It is a commercial place for the surrounding villages such as Memadpur,Kodaram, Pilucha, Rupal, Gola, Parakhadi, Magarwada, Nandotra,Majadar, Gidasan, Nanosana etc. The Vadgam taluka mainly comprises the population of Anjana Chaudhari,Muslim and Rajputs. Anjana Chaudhari community is associated with farming and animal husbandry related activities. Vadgam is a buffer taluka between Banaskantha and Mehsana district.

There is an Agricultural Market yard, primary and high school, college, village panchayat, milk society in the Vadgam.

There is a big temple of Radha krishna is in the Vadgam Village. Ramaji Mandir, Sikotar Mataji Mandir, Gayatri Mandir, Shiv Mandir, Hanuman Mandir, Ambaji Mandir are another Temple in Vadgam Village.

History

During the British Raj Vadgam was the capital of Wadagam State, one of the princely states of the Mahi Kantha Agency ruled by Rajputs.[1]

  • Galbabhai Nanjibhai patel is a farmer leader and social worker, was born at small village Nalasar of Vadgam Taluka. He was the founder chairman of Banas Dairy, Palanpur.[2] The Galbabhai Dairy Co-operative Training Centre has been established in the memory of late Galbabhai.
