History

The site on which World Square now stands was originally home to the Anthony Hordern & Sons department store, a six-story building which opened in 1905. After the demolition of Hordern & Sons, the site remained undeveloped for most of the 1990s due to planning disputes.[2] During the dispute, scenes for the 1995 film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie were shot on the former property of Hordern & Sons and future site of World Square.[3] Between 1988 and 2013, the now defunct Sydney Monorail stopped at the development's 'built-in' station. A light rail stop will be constructed adjacent to the site as part of the CBD and South East Light Rail line.
