Wu Xiubo (Chinese: 吴秀波; pinyin: Wú Xiù Bō), (born 5 September 1968), is a Chinese actor, musician and producer. He is perhaps most widely known as Xinjie Liu, the protagonist in the TV series Before the Dawn, for which he received several awards. Other prominent dramas in which he had a starring role include "The Wedding Gown", "Sword & Spy", "To the Oak", "The Brotherhood", "Road May Say", and "Invincible Love". He is currently one of the highest paid actors on Chinese television.

Early life

Wu was born and raised in Beijing, China. His mother is a pharmacist, and his father, who died in 2007, was a diplomat.[1] Wu Xiubo has one older step-brother who is a physicist.

As a teenager, Wu became involved in the arts, particularly painting, drawing, poetry, and singing. In 1984, he enrolled at Central Academy of Drama, from which he graduated in 1987. During the period 1988 to 1995, he worked as a dramatic actor in the China Railway Art Troupe, as well as working part-time as a singer. Despite his success as an actor, Wu became tired of repeating the same roles day after day, and in 1995 decided to become a full-time musician. From 1995 to 2000, he was a very popular singer in Da Fu Hao and Heping House, two popular bars in Beijing, also performing many of his own compositions. Years later he claimed that this was one of the happiest periods of his life. In 2000 he self-produced his first and only album War of Love, a collection of 10 original songs. He also pursued a variety of business ventures.

Career

In 2002 Wu was encouraged to return to acting by producer Jian Zhang and actress Pei Liu. He made his television dramatic debut as a detective in the series "Crime Investigate" at the end of 2002. Since then he has worked in a wide variety of series and developed a reputation for his versatility as an actor, as well as his abilities in drama and music production. In some cases he filled all three roles (actor, production, music), such as in "A Special Road" (2004) where he played Tianzhuo Lv, and "Road May Say" (2006) in which he played the lead role Yi Luo.

Music

Wu has displayed his musical and literary talents in music producing and poetry writing since he was 17. From 1995 to 2000, he was a quite popular singer in Beijing, performing his own original works only. In 2000, his music album, “War of Love” was released, including 10 original songs all written by himself. He has displayed his musical talents in episodes of several series as well.

Personal life

Wu married in 2002 when he was 34. He and his wife live in Beijing with their two sons Hanhan (born 2003) and Xiaoyu (born 2007).[1] Wu is an avid billiards enthusiast.

In 2014, PETA named him as Asia's Sexiest Male Vegetarian Celebrity.[2]
