Wymondham is a railway station in the town of Wymondham in the English county of Norfolk. The station is served by local services operated by East Midlands Trains and Abellio Greater Anglia on the Breckland Line west of Norwich to Peterborough and Cambridge.

Wymondham station is also the junction for the Mid-Norfolk Railway, although currently their passenger trains, running north to East Dereham, operate from the separate Wymondham Abbey station. The two stations are about a mile apart.

Wymondham was also a junction for a line via Ashwellthorpe to Forncett.

Until April 2009 there was a Telegraph pole route still in operation between here and Brandon. This was removed gradually during the early part of 2009 and was the last section remaining in England and one of the last remaining in the UK. In December 2012, the signal box was closed and the semaphore signalling was replaced by lightweight LED signals controlled from Cambridge signal box.

Service

Abellio Greater Anglia operate an hourly service eastbound to Norwich (12mins) and westbound to Cambridge (62mins). East Midlands Trains operate 4 daily eastbound services to Norwich and 2 daily westbound services to Ely, Peterborough and Liverpool Lime Street with a daily Cambridge service.

On Sundays, Greater Anglia operate a predominantly hourly service to Cambridge and return to Norwich.

A Ticket Office was re-established by National Express East Anglia at Wymondham in 2005, 39 years after the station had become an unstaffed halt under British Railways. The Ticket Office is open on weekday mornings from 05.45 until 10.10hrs.

Wymondham Railway Station was named "Small Station of the Year" in the 2006 National Rail Awards.

The rural stations restaffing initiative won the inaugural "Putting Passengers First Award" at the 2007 National Rail Awards.

Wymondham was named Best Station' at the 'Anglia in Bloom' awards in 2008, and the Brief Encounter Restaurant and the Railway Ticket office were jointly awarded 1st place as 'Best Retail Outlet' at the 2008 'Community Rail Partnership' awards.

Rolling stock

Until Summer 2010 three items of rolling stock were displayed on a short section of isolated line laid close to the station, originally intended to house a camping coach. These were Drewry 0-4-0 diesel shunter VF D297 DC 2583 of 1956, disguised as a Class 04 tram locomotive, a British Railways tube wagon and DS55466, and a LBSCR 25 ton brake van, formerly used as Stratford crane mess van. The wagons have since been relocated to the Whitwell & Reepham railway station, with the locomotive moving to the Bressingham Steam Museum.

The preserved Mid Norfolk Railway has proposed extending their own line to an adjacent station, which would offer easy interchange with National Rail services. More ambitiously, the proposed Norfolk Orbital Railway would see services restored between Wymondham and the Norfolk Coast. This would involve use of the track owned by the Mid Norfolk Railway. Wymondham Abbey would be the next station northwards.
