Swansea Bay Radio is an Independent Local Radio station serving the Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and east Carmarthenshire areas. It is owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting and broadcasts on 102.1 FM and DAB from studios near the St Hilary transmitter in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The station plays chart music from the 1980s to the present day, alongside local news, travel and community information.
History
Swansea Bay Radio originally launched on 5 November 2006 from studios in Neath, with a soft Adult Contemporary and easy listening music format, before switching to playing only 1980s music in March 2012. The station was rebranded as Nation 80s on 1 June 2012, and on 16 January 2013, rebranded again as Nation Hits. On 1 March 2016, the station reverted to its original name of Swansea Bay Radio.[1]
Programming
The majority of Swansea Bay Radio's output is produced and broadcast from Nation Broadcasting's St Hilary studios. All programming and presenters - including music - is shared with sister Bridgend station Bridge FM.[2] Split transmission is used to allow the two stations to broadcast local content relevant to their area.
Presenter-led shows air from 6am - 10pm on weekdays, 8am - 6pm on Saturdays and 8am - 7pm on Sundays. The station's main presenters are Lee Jukes (weekday breakfast, Saturday mornings), Mark Powell (weekday drivetime) and Mike Jordan (weekday evenings). Swansea Bay Radio also airs a rugby magazine show, Rugby Nation (presented by Sean Holley) on Wednesday evenings, networked with other Nation-owned stations.
The Vodafone Big Top 40 is produced by Global Radio at its Capital studios in London for broadcast on 145 commercial radio stations in the UK every Sunday afternoon.
News
Local news bulletins air hourly from 6am - 6pm on weekdays and 8am - 12pm at weekends with headlines on the half-hour during the weekday breakfast and drivetime shows. Swansea Bay Radio also airs bespoke News from Wales bulletins during daytime hours (produced by Nation Broadcasting's newsroom) and Sky News Radio bulletins from London overnight.[3]
The station's journalists are Mike Hughes, Brogan Hubber and Natalie Beer.[4]
