On June 24, 1984, a magnitude 6.7 Mw earthquake occurred off the southern coast of the Dominican Republic.[3] Its epicenter was located 370 kilometres (230 mi) east of the epicenter of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.[3][4] The USGS estimates that 320,000 people were affected at intensity VII and 2,964,000 at intensity VI, resulting in an estimated 5 fatalities.[3]
