The 1995 Open Championship was the 124th Open Championship held 20–23 July at the Old Course at St Andrews in St Andrews, Scotland. John Daly won his first Open Championship and second major title in a four-hole playoff over Costantino Rocca.[2]

The 1995 Open is often remembered for Rocca's unpredictable performance on the 72nd hole. As Rocca approached the final hole, he was one shot behind Daly. Rocca's long drive was only yards from the green, but his second shot resulted in a fluffed chip where he failed to follow through. The ball trickled a mere five yards into the "Valley of Sin." Well below the level of the green, Rocca holed his 65-foot (20 m) birdie putt to tie Daly and force a playoff. The jovial Italian instantly fell to the ground and joyfully pounded the turf with his fists.[3]

The four-hole playoff was played over holes 1, 2, 17, and 18; all par fours.
Rocca bogeyed the first and Daly birdied the second to take a two shot lead to the Road Hole.
Rocca landed in the bunker and took three shots to get out and triple-bogeyed.
He birdied the last hole, but Daly won the playoff by four strokes.[6]
