The 2006–07 Vyshcha Liha season is the sixteenth since its establishment. Shakhtar Donetsk were the defending champions. Soyuz-Viktan became the first title sponsor in the League's history.

The season started on July 21, 2006 with the game in Kiev, Dynamo - Chornomorets 4:1. The last day of the competition was June 17, 2007. The winner of the championship was declared Dynamo Kyiv acquiring their 12th title defeating the reigning champion Shakhtar Donetsk that was holding the title for the last couple of years. The season was also relatively low on scorers with the top goalscorer, Oleksandr Hladky, only netting thirteen goals. Seweryn Gancarczyk, a native of the Western Halychyna topped the list of the goal assistants with eight critical passes.

Dynamo managed to finish the season undefeated with only eight games tied. During the season only two teams never lost to the champion, tying on the both occasions: Metalurh Donetsk and Vorskla Poltava. Shakhtar was able to lose four out of its five games on home turf. Metalist managed to reestablish itself as the top gun of the national competition by placing third and earning a set of medals for the first time in club's history. Metalist finished equal on points with Dynamo in the second half and only trailing Shakhtar by two points at the finish line of the competition.

Illichivets was forced into relegation for the first time since entering the League 10 years ago. Stal was relegated as well. It was the second time for that club.

The average attendance of the championship was 9,056 which is less than 1% of country population. The most popular clubs were averaging: Shakhtar (19,193), Karpaty (18391), and Zoria (14333). The most popular club among its city population was Stal from Alchevsk. 4.9% of Alchevsk residents attended the games of their home team which is the highest in the season.

303 goals were scored by home teams and 212 - by visitors. 108 games were won on a home ground while visitors were victories in 62 tallies. In 71 games no winner was declared. 44 games finished with 3+ goals, while 31 games saw no goals at all. Out of 76 penalties only 56 were scored. There also were six goals scored by an own player. Total players participated in the competition was 567.

The game Karpaty-Metalist finished with a technical loss awarded to the Lviv's club for no appearance.[1]
