Rankings from AP Poll

The 2016 Michigan Wolverines football team, sometimes known as Team 137 in reference to the 137-year tradition of the Michigan football program, is an American football team that represents the University of Michigan during the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Wolverines play in the East Division of the Big Ten Conference and play their home games at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Michigan is coached by Jim Harbaugh, who will be in his second season.

Preseason

In 2015, Michigan compiled a 10–3 record (6–2 in conference play) during the regular season and played Florida in the Citrus Bowl, defeating the Gators 41–7.

Michigan suffered staff attrition when defensive coordinator D. J. Durkin left the program to become the head coach at Maryland.[1] On December 21, 2015, Michigan officially announced the hiring of Don Brown as defensive coordinator.[2] On January 7, 2016, it was officially announced that John Baxter would be leaving Michigan to become the Special Teams coach at USC.[3] In response to this, Michigan promoted their recruiting coordinator Chris Partridge to coach Special Teams and Linebackers.[4] On February 18, 2016, Greg Jackson left Michigan to become the defensive backs coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He was subsequently replaced by Brian Smith, who most recently served as an assistant linebackers coach with the Philadelphia Eagles under Chip Kelly

The team will have four Spring Football practices at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida between February 29 and March 4, 2016 with the final practice being an open practice for fans and recruits.[5]
