The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan was founded in 1951. It was closed under president Saparmurat Niyazov, but was opened again with the instruction of his successor, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

Structure

The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan has the following functional structure. Three departments [1]

  • Humanitarian and economic sciences department;
  • Physical and mathematical, chemical, geological and engineering sciences department;
  • Medical, biological and agricultural sciences department.
ACADEMY of SCIENCES of TURKMENISTAN from the first established structure till nowadays

The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan is the state body which primary task is to ensure the practical realization of scientific and technical politics.

[En English]: The Academy of Sciences of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic was established in June 1951 on the basis of the Foundation of the Turkmen Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Socialist Republic of the Union. Initially - Turkestan scientific. Commission (1922), then the Turkmen.

The new structure of Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan:
With the revival of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan in 2009, the structure of Science and Research in Turkmenistan changes and reflects the reforms taking place in the country, which were initiated by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov. With the new structure of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, centralization of research activity was generated in the same place.
The national Academy of Sciences has been restored according to the resolution of the President of Turkmenistan №10458 dated June, 12th 2009, titled «About questions of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan», which has headed all activity on development and science organisation in Turkmenistan.
According to the resolution under the authority of the Academy of Sciences 11 institutes and the 3 organisations serving the science sector have been moved: the library, the printing house and the publishing house “Ylym”. The President of Academy, the Professor Dr. Mezilov G. A. heads Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.

НИИ изучения истории, географии, литературы и искусства (1925), далее Гос. Ученый Совет (ГУС) при Наркомате просвещения (1926), затем Туркменкульт* (1928-32). С мая 1932 Туркм. НИИ. Постановлением ЦИК и СНК ТССР от 31 марта 1936 в мае разделён на два ин-та: Ин-т истории и ИЯиЛ с прямым подчинением ЦИК и СНК ТССР. В дальнейшем объединены в Туркм. гос. НИИ ИЯиЛ при Республиканском комитете по делам наук (1937-40). С 1940 ТФАН СССР. Объединял три ин-та: ИЯиЛ, Биологический и Геологии: 1 д. наук и 12 канд. науки. В составе Физ.-тех. ин-та организ. лаборатории химии и технологии нефти, сейсмологический отд. При Президиуме ТФАН СССР осн. сектор водного хоз., в Геологическом ин-те – сектор нефти и горючих ископаемых. С 1951 АН ТССР: 42 канд. н., в т.ч. 12 туркмен. Президент Т. Бердыев, вице-президенты: М.П. Петров и О. Джумаев. В 1956 – 12 акад., 18 член-кор., 13 д. н. (в т.ч. 8 туркмен), 68 канд. н. (в т.ч. 32 туркмена), в аспирантуре училось 79 чел. В 1956 два ин-та – Земледелия и Животноводства перешли в систему министерства с.-х. ТССР. В янв. 1957 открыты ин-ты Химии и Экономики на базе отд., существовавших при Президиуме АН ТССР. После разделения ин-та Биологии созданы ин-т Ботаники и ин-т Зоологии и паразитологии. В 1957 объединяла 9 НИИ: Геологии, Физики и геофизики, Антисейсмического строительства, Химии, Ботаники, Зоологии и паразитологии, Языка и литературы; Истории, археологии и этнографии; Экономики, а также Ботанический сад, три музея (истории и краеведения в Ашхабаде и мемориальный им. 26 Бакинских комиссаров – в г.Туркменбаши*) ряд науч. станций и опорных пунктов. В 1986 академия объединяла 15 науч.-исслед. учреждения, 1053 науч. сотруд., в т.ч. 17 акад. и 25 чл.-кор., 51 д. наук и 522 канд. наук. В 1994 – 6210 науч. работников, 260 д. наук, 1540 канд. наук.
