Aleksey Aleksandrovich Saltykov (Russian: алексей Александрович Салтыков; born May 13, 1934) is a Soviet - Russian film director and screenwriter, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1980). He is best known for his film The Chairman (1964 film).[1]

Saltikov was born in Moscow. After graduation of high school he studied directing at All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), class of an acclaimed Russian director Mikhail Romm, which graduated from in 1961.

He created over twenty films known widely by Russian audience. His most notable films are My Friend, Kolka! he filmed together wit Aleksander Mitta and The Chairman with Mikhail Ulyanov.
