Jones began entering pageants as a youth in her local America's Junior Miss competition. She won the 1999 Covington County Junior Miss title, earning a $10,000 scholarship to Birmingham–Southern College.[1] As an 18-year-old, she entered the Miss Leeds Area 1999 pageant and was named 1st runner-up.[1]

Jones competed for the Miss Alabama title five times before her win in 2005:[1] She was named Miss Covered Bridge Festival 2000,[1] Miss Leeds Area 2001,[2] and Miss Jubilee 2002.[3] During her senior year in college, Jones won the crown as Miss Birmingham–Southern College 2003.[4][5][6] She was named Miss Painted Rock 2004 and third runner-up as Miss Alabama 2004.[7][8]

Entering the 2005 state competition as Miss Mobile 2005, Jones won the title of Miss Alabama on June 11, 2005, when she received her crown from outgoing titleholder Shannon Camper.[9][10] Jones' platform was "Arts Education". Her competition talent for Miss Alabama was dancing ballet en pointe to "Fuego" by Bond.[9] In August 2005, Jones was recognized with a homecoming celebration in Andalusia, Alabama, and a joint resolution of the Alabama Legislature.[2]

Jones was Alabama's representative at the Miss America 2006 pageant on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada.[11][12][13] Her platform was arts in education through the Renaissance Foundation of Alabama, which she founded.[14][15] Jones was named 2nd runner-up in the competition and won a $15,000 scholarship. She was also named the pageant's Quality of Life 2nd runner-up.[11]

In January 2007, Jones went to work for WIAT ("CBS 42") in Birmingham, Alabama, as the co-host of Wake Up Alabama, a morning news program, and a sports reporter. She left the station in January 2011.[16]
