Alexander Pol[1] (Ukrainian: Олександр Миколайович Поль; 20 August 1832 – 26 July 1890) was a Ukrainian archaeologist, geologist, ethnographer and businessman who became known after discovering Kryvbas, a major iron ore region of Eastern Europe.
He studied the Kryvyi Rih iron ore for 15 years and proved its industrial importance, personally contributed to the fact that in 1881 industrial development began,[2] which enabled the rapid economic development of the town of Kryvyi Rih and, more broadly, of the Yekaterinoslav Governorate of Russia.
