Allestree /ˈæləztri/ is a small town in Victoria, Australia. It is located along the Princes Highway, north-east of Portland. At the 2006 census, Allestree and the surrounding area had a population of 316.[1]
Allestree is named after Allestree in Derbyshire, England.[2] Allestree Post Office opened on 9 August 1907 (replacing nearby Bolwarra) and closed in 1971.[3]
Within the locality of Allestree is the Convincing Ground where a massacre of aborigines is alleged to have taken place in around 1833.[citation needed]
