Alphonse Germain (1861 – 1938) was a French art historian and critic.

Biography

After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, he was an art critic for the magazines Art et Critique and L'Ermitage (1889-1896).

Laureate of the French Academy and of the Academy of Lyon, curator of the museum of Bourg-en-Bresse, his writings concern essentially the history of art in the Lyonese region. Of particular note is his three-volume history of Lyon artists published between 1910 and 1911.
