Andrew Torba (born May 2, 1986) is an American nationalist, entrepreneur, and businessman. He is the co-founder and current CEO of Gab, a social media service that was created in 2016.

Torba is an outspoken proponent of free speech and a friend of Nick Fuentes. He appeared as a guest speaker at the third running of Fuentes' America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC).

Early Life

Torba was born on May 2, 1986 in Texas,[1] and grew up in Pennsylvania. He is the son of Bob Torba, Jr., and Amy Torba. Andrew has one brother, He graduated from the University of Scranton in 2013, with a BA in philosophy.[2]

Career

Before founding Gab, Torba was the CEO of Kuhcoon, a company that attempted to automate Facebook ad campaigns for small businesses.[3] He has also written articles for The Huffington Post, Poetry in Motion and other sites.

Gab

Torba and Ekrem Büyükkaya started Gab in August 2016. The platform then launched publicly in May 2017. Gab does not engage in censorship like mainstream social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. For this very reason, it has been involved in various controversies, and has been condemned in the mainstream media and by politically correct organizations as being a platform for extremists.

Political views

An outspoken conservative and Christian nationalist, Torba is a staunch free speech proponent who was briefly suspended from Facebook in 2016 for sharing a Milo Yiannopoulos video.[4] For this very reason, Torba has been subject to various political attacks since Gab's founding. He strongly believes in the principles of freedom that the United States was founded on, and in particular, stands for the right to free speech. His refusal to censor people for their political and religious beliefs has drawn the ire of many tech companies, banks, and other groups and individuals, both in and out of the political landscape. Hosting providers, DNS providers, banks, payment processors, mobile app stores, and more have all de-platformed Gab, in response to its firm "free speech" stance. His political views have also garnered controversy, including his opposition to male surplus immigration and population replacement. Nonetheless, Torba and his team have worked to eliminate as many external dependencies as possible, so that they can remain online. Not only has his company been cut off from many public services, but also he personally, and in some cases his entire family, have also been banned from certain services, including banks.

Torba is known for his friendship with Nick Fuentes, and appeared as a guest speaker at the third America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC), which was sponsored by Gab. It took place on February 25, 2022, in Orlando, Florida.
