        Assassin's Creed Chronicles is a series of video games in the Assassin's Creed franchise. The series consists of three games developed by Climax Studios, to be published by Ubisoft. The games feature new protagonists and a design that is new to the franchise, a 2.5D world inspired by traditional brush paintings. The first entry is China released on April 21, 2015, on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The second entry, India, was released on January 12, 2016 on the same platforms. The last game, Russia, was released on February 9, 2016.[2]

        Gameplay

        The game is a 2.5D side scrolling platformer.[2] The game features a large array of weapons such as secret shoe blade, rope darts, and daggers.[3] Players must control the protagonist, and navigate through the environment. Players can use stealth tactics such as hiding from enemies in shadows and can climb areas that are highlighted with more color.[4]

        Plot

        China takes place after the film Assassin's Creed: Embers. The game takes place in 1526 China and focuses on the female protagonist, Shao Jun. After being trained by legendary Italian assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Shao Jun returns to her homeland to exact vengeance against the Templar group Eight Tigers, who wiped out the Chinese brotherhood. Shao Jun's quest took her through Macau, Nan'an, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, as she killed the Tigers one by one and finally assassinating the final target, Zhang Yong. Years later, Shao Jun, who became an Assassin Mentor and had rebuilt the brotherhood, plotted the assassination of Jiajing Emperor by sending him an elixir of life.

        India takes place in 1841 India and features the protagonist, Arbaaz Mir. While the Sikh Empire was at war with the East India Company, a Master Templar arrives with a mysterious item that used to belong to the Assassin Order. Mir must discover why he has come, steal back the item, and protect his friends and his lover. Some of the weapons introduced are a typical Mughal and Sikh sword resembling an Aruval, Urumi, a concealed Katara with Bagh naka, a Chakram, smoke bombs for stealth and distraction. A Slingshot with rock pellets has also been added.

        Russia takes place in 1918 Russia during the aftermath of the October Revolution and features protagonist Nikolai Orelov. Orelov wants to leave with his family, but is required to perform one last mission for the Assassin Order: infiltrate the house where the Tsar's family is being held by the Bolsheviks, and steal an artifact that has been fought over by Assassins and Templars for centuries. Along the way, he witnesses the massacre of the Tsar Nicholas II's children, but manages to save the princess, Anastasia. He must escape the Templars while protecting the artifact and Anastasia.[5] Nikolai uses a custom Berdan rifle fitted with a bayonet which can be used for melee combat with sniping capabilities, and a grapnel gun that can also produce electricity in order to short out electricity boxes, spotlights, lamp posts or kill unsuspecting enemies standing on water puddles.

        Development and release

        China was originally announced in September 2014 as part of the season pass for Assassin's Creed Unity.[6] On March 31, 2015, it was announced that China was part of a trilogy with India and Russia to be released at a later time. The trilogy is being developed by Climax Studios with association with Ubisoft Montreal[2] China was released on April 21, 2015, in North America and April 22, 2015, in other territories, on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. China is the first title in the franchise to utilize Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3.

        On December 8, 2015, Ubisoft announced India will be released on January 12, 2016 and Russia will be released on February 9, 2016 alongside a collected version of the three games titled Trilogy Pack. A PlayStation Vita version of the Trilogy Pack was released on April 5, 2016.[1]

        China received mixed reviews. Aggregating review website Metacritic gave the PlayStation 4 version a score of 69 out of 100 based on 44 reviews.[7] The PC version received a score of 67 out of 100 based on 15 reviews.[8] The Xbox One version received a score of 67 out of 100 based on 31 reviews.[9]

        Vincent Ingenito of IGN gave the game a 6.9 out of 10, criticizing the story, and simplicity. However, Ingenito praised the level designs stating, "Exploring and seeing how the different paths connect to one another is probably the best part of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China."[14]

        India received mixed reviews as well. Aggregating review website Metacritic gave the PlayStation 4 version a score of 63 out of 100 based on 41 reviews,[10] while the Xbox One version received a score of 64 out of 100 based on 20 reviews.[11]

        Russia received lowest reviews out of all trilogy, yet reviews were still mixed. Aggregating review website Metacritic gave the PlayStation 4 version a score of 60 out of 100 based on 21 reviews,[12] while the Xbox One version received a score of 62 out of 100 based on 24 reviews.[13]
