August Zingel (20 January 1922 – 22 December 2000) was a Untersturmführer (Second Lieutenant), in the Waffen SS during World War II who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.

August Zingel was born on the 20 January 1922, at Heidmühle near Oldenburg. He volunteered to join the SS and took part in the Anschluss of Austria, the occupation of the Sudetenland and the annexation of Bohemia and Moravia.

He participated in the invasion of the Soviet Union, (Operation Barbarossa) and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class in October 1941 and the 1st class award in February 1942. His award of the Knight's Cross was in September 1942, serving in the 15th Company, 1st SS Totenkopf Regiment (3rd SS Division Totenkopf), as part of Kampfgruppe Krauth (battle group Krauth).

Post war

Zingel died on 22 December 2000.
