Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (Metropolitan Transportation Authority), shortened as ATM, is the organization in charge of the coordination of several public transportation systems in the city of Barcelona, its metropolitan area and other regions under its influence, including the setting of a shared fare, as well as the management, planning and/or construction of infrastructure for the global network.

Scope

Area

Although there is no official extension limit for the scope of ATM in the future, the current covered area is approximately the Barcelona's urban region, which comprises the nearby comarcas of Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, Maresme, Alt Penedès and Garraf and also some farther towns and municipalities with a high mobility dependence with Barcelona, such as Blanes, El Vendrell, Igualada or Manresa.

The metropolitan area is made up of 6 concentric areas, defined by the Entitat del Transport for each of which different fares apply. [1]

Systems excluded

Several transportation systems, principally those aimed at the long distance or tourist market, are excluded from the ATM common fare network, and separate tickets must be bought before travel. These include:

The mountain transport systems serving Montserrat are also excluded, although in this case through tickets are available that include travel on the ATM network together with various combinations of mountain transport. The excluded mountain lines are:

Cards and pricing

All of the ATM transport cards can be used in any of these services. These are:

  • T-10 - 10 full journeys using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones). Multi-person ticket with time limit.
  • T-50/30 – 50 full journeys using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones).Validity: 30 consecutive days from the first validation. Single person ticket with time limit.
  • T-Familiar (70/30) - 70 full journeys using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones). Validity: 30 consecutive days from the first validation. Multi-personal ticket with time limit.
  • T-Mes - Unlimited journeys, in the zones defined by the first validation, using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones). Validity: 30 consecutive days from the first validation. Ticket personalised with your ID Card or passport .
  • T-Trimestre - Unlimited journeys, in the zones defined by the first validation, using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones). Validity: 90 consecutive days from the first validation.Ticket personalised with your ID Card or passport.
  • T-Dia - Unlimited journeys, in the zones defined by the first validation, using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones). Validity: 1 day, from the first validation until the service closes down. Single person ticket.
  • T-Jove - Unlimited journeys, in the zones defined by the first validation, using all means of transport according to the zones to cross (from 1 to 6 zones). Validity: 90 consecutive days from the first validation. Ticket personalised with your ID Card or passport, for persons under 25 years.

The time limit for journeys as of August 2012 is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
