Bakri Hassan Saleh (Arabic: بكري حسن صالح) is a Sudanese politician who is the current First Vice President of Sudan. Saleh was appointed to the position on 8 December 2013 as part of a shakeup in the Sudanese leadership following the 2013 Sudanese protests.[1]
Saleh took part in the 1989 coup that brought Omar al-Bashir to power, and served on the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation, which governed Sudan following the coup.[2] Saleh has held prominent positions in the Sudanese security agencies, particularly the Ministry of Defense, which he headed until 2005.[1]
In 2012 he was appointed as Deputy Secretary-General of the Islamic Movement.[2]
Saleh has been rumoured as a possible successor to Omar al-Bashir.[2][3]
