Behrouz Vossoughi (Persian: بهروز وثوقی‎‎, Azerbaijani: Behruz Vüsuqi),[1] born as Khalil Vossoughi (Persian: خلیل وثوقی‎‎))[2] (10 March 1938 in Khoy, Iranian Azerbaijan) is an Iranian actor, TV Host and model.

Career

Behrouz Vossoughi is one of Iran's most legendary actors. He has over 40 years of experience in the motion picture industry, with featured appearances in more than 90 films. In addition to his work in films, Vossoughi has worked in television, radio and theater. He started acting in films with Samuel Khachikian's Toofan dar Shahre ma and Abbas Shabaviz's Gole gomshodeh (1962). He became a major star as the brooding hero of the revenge drama Qeysar (1969), directed by Masoud Kimiai. His work has earned him recognition at several international film festivals: he won the prize for Best Actor at the International Film Festival of India in 1974 and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2006. He was one of the first Iranians to appear in American and European co-productions, such as Caravans in 1978, co-starring with Anthony Quinn, Jennifer O'Neill and Michael Sarrazin. He also appeared in The Invincible Six (1970) with Curd Jürgens, and Sphinx (1981) with Frank Langella and Lesley-Anne Down. In 2000, at the San Francisco Film Festival award ceremony, Abbas Kiarostami was awarded the Akira Kurosawa Prize for lifetime achievement in directing, but surprised everyone by giving it away to veteran Iranian actor Behrouz Vossoughi for his contribution to Iranian cinema.[3][4] Behrouz In 2012, he was an official festival judge for the Noor Iranian Film Festival. He is a judge on Persian Talent Show.

Personal life

Behrouz Vossoughi currently resides in San Rafael, California with his wife, Catherine Vossoughi. Previously, he was briefly married, in the 1970s, to the Iranian singer Googoosh.
