Bekovsky District (Russian: Бе́ковский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,016 square kilometers (392 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Bekovo.[1] Population: 17,531 (2010 Census);[4] 18,853 (2002 Census);[7] 21,474 (1989 Census).[8] The population of Bekovo accounts for 39.6% of the district's total population.[4]
