Bloomberg Radio is the world's only global business news radio broadcaster, with programming originating from its bureaus in New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, London, and Hong Kong. It provides an edition of its signature "First Word" program from the part of the world where markets are active, and its audience is preparing for the day ahead. The programming offers a combination of world business, interviews with economists, analysts, decision-makers, along with frequent market updates, business "news flashes," and general news updates. News is gathered by Bloomberg's 2400 journalists in over 150 bureaus around the world. Bloomberg Radio and Bloomberg News are owned by Bloomberg L.P., the company known for the Bloomberg terminal, which enables professionals in finance and other industries to access the Bloomberg Professional service through which users can monitor and analyze real-time financial market data.

Bloomberg Radio operates four radio stations: WBBR (1130AM) in New York City, WXKS (1200AM/94.5FM-HD2) in Boston, KNEW (960AM/103.7FM-HD2) in San Francisco, and WDCH-FM (99.1FM/105.7FM-HD2) in Washington, D.C. Bloomberg Radio is also heard on SiriusXM (Channel 119) and is streamed live on Bloomberg.com, TuneIn, IHeart and the Bloomberg Radio+ mobile app. Bloomberg Radio also provides business reports to over 300 radio stations across the United States through the Bloomberg Radio Network. Affiliates include major all-news radio stations owned by CBS Radio and iHeart. Bloomberg Radio's distribution is handled by United Stations Radio Networks.

Bloomberg Radio first went on the air in January 1993 after Bloomberg purchased WBBR (at the time designated as WNEW), in 1992, for $13.5 million.[1] Bloomberg took over the programming of Boston AM station WXKS in the spring of 2013 and San Francisco AM station KNEW as of the fall of 2014. Both stations are owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. (formerly Clear Channel Communications), but are programmed by Bloomberg under a local marketing agreement (LMA).[2] On December 21, 2015, Bloomberg Radio debuted its broadcast to Baltimore and Washington DC on CBS Radio-owned WNEW-FM, its first FM broadcast.[3] The call letters were subsequently changed to WDCH-FM.

Programming

The original Bloomberg Radio news format divided each hour of the day into six 10-minutes segments, each of which contained financial market updates, business headlines, traffic, weather, sports, a human interest piece or a general updates about cultural happenings.[4] However, by 2010, Bloomberg Radio had shifted from a headline service to a discussion-based format in order to offer more in-depth market and economic analysis. Each day, the station broadcasts more than 20 live interviews with economists, market analysts, authors and politicians on shows such as Bloomberg Surveillance with Tom Keene and Michael McKee which airs weekday mornings from 7 a.m to 10 a.m.[5]
