The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) is a United Kingdom-based professional association for the facilities management sector. Formed in 1993, the institute has over 16,500 members and represents and promotes the interest of those members and the wider FM community.[1]

Dedicated to advancing the facilities management profession the institute delivers a range of services and benefits, including information, qualifications, continuing professional development, training and networking.

Facilities management professionals are responsible for services that support business. Their roles can cover management of a wide range of areas including: health and safety, risk management, business continuity, procurement, sustainability, space planning, energy, property and asset management. They are typically responsible for activities such as catering, cleaning, building maintenance, environmental services, security and reception.

Professional membership

Facilities management professionals can become members of the institute at these member grades:

  • Affiliate
  • Associate - earning the post-nominal credentials ABIFM
  • Member - earning the post-nominal credentials MBIFM
  • Certified - earning the post-nominal credentials CBIFM
  • Fellow - earning the post-nominal credentials FBIFM

Facilities Management Qualifications

Internationally recognised and accredited qualifications in facilities management. From level 2 (entry level) through to level 7 (senior - Masters level).
