"Carry On" is a song by Avenged Sevenfold. The song was released on September 24, 2012.[3][4] The song was released on iTunes.[5]

Music style and lyrical themes

The song is a fast, uptempo song featuring a heavy metal sound.[2] It also was strongly influenced by many old-school heavy metal bands and thrash metal bands as it was influenced by many songs the band members heard by bands they like which were played on Ozzy's Boneyard on Sirius XM radio.[2]

In an interview with the band's lead singer M. Shadows about the song meaning he said <templatestyles src="Template:Blockquote/styles.css" />

I wanted to be more vague. Sometimes, I feel like my lyrics meander a little bit, and our songs are so big I need to write more words than are necessary. I wanted to leave these lyrics more open-ended. I felt that the term "Carry On" was perfect not only for the characters but for AVENGED SEVENFOLD moving forward. I stuck with that. I just wanted to write some epic lyrics you could think about when you were driving down the street or on your horse.[2]

In popular culture

The song plays at the end of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, showcasing the band and two characters of the game, Raul Menendez (voiced by Kamar de los Reyes) on guitar (guitar played by 'Scarlett') and Sergeant Frank Woods (voiced by James C. Burns) on drums, as the song plays a montage of cutscenes and gameplay elements. It is also used in the reveal trailer for the game's Zombies mode.

Music video

The music video for the song is played at the end of the credits of Black Ops II and Features Frank Woods and Menendez playing with the band, as the video goes on it shows clips from the game and cameos from characters in game are featured in the video.

Record Store Day Release
