The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) is a United States based software and information trade association. The organization lobbies United States policy makers as well as conducting surveys and research. It also hosts conferences and webcasts.

The SIIA's activities pertain to government relations, business development, corporate education and intellectual property protection to companies that produce and deliver software and content products and services.

History

The Software Publishers Association (SPA) was founded in 1984 by Ken Wasch. The original purpose was to provide its two dozen software publisher members representation with policy makers. The membership later grew to a thousand small companies, and in 1999 it was merged with the Information Industry Association (IIA) to form the Software & Information Industry Association.

Organization

The SIIA consists of nine divisions. Public Policy, Intellectual Property Protection, Software, Content, Information Industry Network Europe, Specialized Information Publishers Association, American Business Media, Education, and Financial Information Services. In addition, the SIIA promotes industry products and services through the annual Codie awards.

Content Division – composed of companies that publish and distribute information, or provide technologies and services that enable the marketing and delivery of information products and services.

Education Division – composed of companies that provide software, digital content and other technologies that address educational needs in the K-20 marketplace.

Financial Information Services Division – composed of content providers (exchanges), market data vendors, specialist data providers, brokerage firms, investment managers and banks, and software and service providers focused on market data.

Software Division – composed of companies that develop the applications, services, infrastructure and tools that drive the software and services industry.

SIPA Division – composed of specialized-information publishers and content providers serving niche industries, and vendor companies that enable the marketing and delivery of information products and services.

ABM Division - ABM is focused on the entire b-to-b business model - data, events, information, marketing services and media. ABM also delivers intelligence to industry professionals worldwide, including Madison Avenue, Wall Street and the Beltway.

PSIG is the leading voice for government technology innovation and a well-respected thought leader in the public sector IT space. The division is composed of innovative software and IT services firms seeking to take advantage of the evolving Federal investment in Cloud-related technologies.

Public Policy - SIIA is the leading voice of the software & digital content industries across a wide range of issues, including intellectual property protection, privacy and data security, e-government and information policy, taxation of electronic commerce, security, education technology and workforce development.

Intellectual Property Protection - The Anti-Piracy Division conducts a comprehensive, industry-wide campaign to fight software piracy and content piracy. The pro-active campaign is premised on the notion that one must balance enforcement with education in order to be effective.

The CODiE awards are SIIA's yearly peer-recognition award for outstanding code and content products, first issued in 1986.
