The Cypriot cricket team is the team that represents the country of Cyprus in international cricket matches. They became an International Cricket Council affiliate member in 1999,[1] although it was not until August 2006 that they made their international debut, finishing as runners up in Division Four of the European Championship. In 2007, the Cyprus Cricket National team competed in the European Division 3 Championships where they finished in 7th place out of 8. In 2009, Cyprus then Hosted the ICC Division 4 Championships in Cyprus which turned out to be a great success for the Cyprus National cricket team winning the Division 4 championship. In 2011, Cyprus then competed in the ICC Division 2 T20 Championships held in Belgium where they came 10th place in the tournament, beating Sweden in the play-off game for 10th/11th place. Cyprus are ranked 24th in the ICC European Twenty20 Rankings (as of 29 December 2012).[2]

Domestic structure

There are currently twelve league teams, made up of cricketers from Cyprus, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Australia, Bangladesh and England. In addition to the league there is also a Twenty20 competition.

The future

Current Cyprus national squad

This year's Cyprus squad is different to the last year's squad that competed in the I.C.C Division 2 T20 Championships held in Belgium. This year's squad has a new coach, a new manager and there are 4 new caps to make their first International Appearance in the squad. South African-born Cypriot Mike Kyriacou has been captaining the side since 2006 and he will be leading the Cyprus team in the T20 tournament to be held in Greece Corfu
